Choosing Your Stylist or Barber

I know a few guys who have stuck with one barber for most of their adult lives. Why? They usually stick with the one who already knows the ins and outs of his hairstyle and hair needs. Switching barbers or stylists everytime would tend to make it difficult to take care of hair. But if you have someone you know and trust, you don’t even have to tell him or her what style you want. You just sit on the chair, and he can do his magic.

At least that is the case if you’d rather stick to one style. If you’re the experimenting kind, then of course you can go ahead with different stylists.

L’oreal’s Espionage

L’oreal Paris had a show last Thursday Sept 25, 2008 held at the Ballroom of the Crown Plaza Hotel and I was one of the lucky persons who got invited by my friend Myra Bendana, who is also an Owner of a Salon called Fabulous Hair MakeOver/FHM located at Aurora Blvd., Quezon City to see the said event.

Every year, L’oreal Paris invites owners of salon shops to see what’s new in their product. And this year’s title of event is called L’oreal Espionage.

The show started at around 6pm with guests mostly owners and Filipino stylists. There were also Foreign guests from Paris, Korea and Japan.

The show showcased diff styles of hair and color from four Filipino stylists. The colors were usually red, copper and not too blonde. Cuts were mostly short this time. And the most wonderful part was the demo from the invited foreign guests. The models had to be styled quickly and you can really see diff styles from diff stylists. The french guy used a razor for styling hair. The Korean had a very unique way of styling too, he can cut as fast as 10 mins. per person. While the Japanese, styled hair by using different ornaments or accessories to make the person look more glamorous. And ending the show, they had a raffle draw and the prize was a Sony DVD player for one lucky winner.

Haircare Tips

Follow these smart hair tips to get beautiful and healthy looking hair in no time. These tips work for both women as well as men. As long as you stick to the regimen, your hair should bounce back into its natural state in no time.

Tip #1: Avoid rinsing your hair with hot water. The intense heat will only damage your hair. Instead rinse your hair with cold to lukewarm water and you will start to see a difference.

Tip #2: Never pull your hair. Hair strands are so weak and fragile, that if you comb your hair too harshly and you pull the strands, you’ll end up with brittle, split-ends. If your hair doesn’t brush easily after washing, try a de-tangler and then work your hair gently with a wide-tooth comb.

Tip #3: Get a regular trim. Your hair does not look long with split ends; it just looks damaged. You will be surprised at how healthy your hair will look if you just trim it once a month or even once every three weeks.

Gorgeous ‘Dos For the Beautiful You – Cuts for Short Hair (part 3)

A shoulder length and angled cut would flatter your features. Styling time takes to 15 minutes. To make your hair straight and sleek, blow-dry it with a paddle brush. Use a styling cream or a leave-on conditioner (for me, CreamSilk work best) to add shine and prevent flyaways.

My second favorite cut is the chic, short layered style. It has long layers and lengthy bangs, with additional length left in the back. The good thing about this is that it takes only five minutes to maintain! You could spread only a small amount of styling gel and push your hair behind your ears, or just keep it loose.

Gorgeous ‘Dos For the Beautiful You – Layers (part 2)

If you’re the type who go for layers, good for you! Angled layers add movement to weighed-down mane. This is one of my favorite styles! I’m a sucker for the tousled, just-got-out-of-bed look. You may use Velcro rollers to achieve this. For soft curls that look natural, scrunch the Velcro balls into your hair while blow-drying. To avoid tangles, don’t sleep on them or coil hair more than twice.

The beauty of layers is that they give body to your hair. Your styling time could take up to 30 minutes. You could flip your hair from one side to the other while blow-drying. This will add fullness to your mane. Use a jumbo round brush to direct the layers toward the face. You can pull it back or up, or blow the layers back or under.

Gorgeous ‘Dos For the Beautiful You (part 1)

Spring is here, and it’s the season for flowers. They bloom in the sun, and so should you. One cool way to look good and feel good is to rid yourself of stubborn tangles, split-ends, and your boring ‘do. Get a gorgeous, head-turning haircut!

If you choose to maintain your Rapunzel-like hair, you have to wash it nightly because it’s likely to attract so much dust and dirt. Waist-length hair usually takes three hours to blow-dry, and has fewer styling options. While it’s too long to put up in a ponytail, it would also take you forever to curl it. The best remedy to transform blah, boring mane to a glamorous hairdo is to rebond it. Rebonding uses milder chemicals than relaxing and straightening processes. It makes your hair super straight and manageable. To make it shiny, you could have a hair spa or protein treatment.
